Joseph Benedetto is a Derringer Award Finalist and the author of more than 60 short stories and articles that have been published in magazines such as Golden Visions, Calliope, Renard's Menagerie and elsewhere, and mysteries from his crime series "The Fifth Precinct", his science fiction series "The Keleyat on Mars", and his "In Peril in China" historical adventures have appeared in several magazines, short story collections and anthologies in both the United States and Australia.

A member of both the Short Mystery Fiction Society and the Mystery Writers of America, he has served in the Mentor Program of the New York Chapter of the MWA, lectured on the craft and business of writing genre fiction, served as the prolocutor of the Write-or-Die writers group of Western Pennsylvania, and spent four years serving as the Senior Assistant Fiction Editor of the Triangulation speculative fiction anthology.
